pic of my custom rear cowl grille for my SS hood

This is a pic of my custom made stainless steel cowl grille for my SS hood. The rear part was cut out by the previous owner and it didnt look right so I made up this tricklooking grille. It lets the hot air get out and will keep the trash out. I will end up painting this flat black when the car gets painted just to reduce the possibility of glare. I glued it in place inside a channel Imade on the edge of the hood. I used some 2 part epoxy. This thing is NOT going anywhere. It even made the hood stronger... Oh and dont mind the leaves, the car has been sitting in one spot for quite some time.

that looks really good! I did something similar to my ra1 hood when I got it, cause the back of the hoods really dont look finished. Where did you get the grill material for yours? I need to redo mine, it looks kinda bad.

I found that piece sitting inside the shed at my parents house. my dad is a top machinist at a Navy base and he gets to play with some cool stuff from the government and I bet he found this stuff lying around and brouht it home. My dad and I like to fabricate things out of metal so we have quite a bit of material lying around the garage and stuff. I was kinda iffy on using it since it is stainless and a major PITA to cut and stuff but it went fairly well. The holes where already init and they have a nice taper to them on the edge soit looks nice. No one is going to see that though once I put flat black paint on it. I wonder it it will look nice if I add a 6" red LED strip light in there at night. maybe find one that isnt so bright. Would that look tacky if it had a slight red glow coming from those holes at night

I bet the light would look nice albeit a little distracting. Maybe just while the car was sitting. I say do it.

it cant be any more distracting then all these gauges lite up at night. Im gonna look for one that very small and see how it works. my dads got this cool LED kit on his harley and it loks awsome at night. As the chrome is lite up and you can even see the LED lights.

that'd be pretty sweet, even if you dont get that, maybe a neon tube or something. Or the moving light like KITT.

Very nice Craftmanship Bottled! Gauges would look cool there tho.

well I had gauges mounted inside my cowl hood. I couldnt put them in this hood since they where too big and there was no way to mount them due to the design of the bottom of the hood in that area. Plus even if I could, they would not be shielded from the rain and stuff and they wouldnt last very long. I ened up making a custom gauge pod under the center vents to house the gauges. I put pics of it in the interior section.

for such a quick fix it looks better... needs to be molded and smoothed in somehow though to look right i feel. better then a hole.

well I am thinking of reshaping the bottom of it so its contoured the same as the rest of the hood lines. its just pita to cut this stuff. I will most likely mess with that before it goes in for paint
