Removing paint off plastic/fiberglass bumpers????
How do I remove paint off stock 1980's front and rear bumpers???
And what kind of tools or equipment or materials do I need?
any suggestions that will give my bumpers a smoth texture and ready to be painted would be great.

that type of stripper will get in every crack...and get all the paint out which is great. I've never used it, wish I did in the past. I just used a DA with 180 to sand it all off.

Getting it out of all the cracks was a bit of a pain but worth it. In the pic I posted, the SEM stripper is taking off paint left behind by another paint stripper. I ran out of SEM and went with some other brand, didn't work nearly as good so I had to redo it.

I've been looking for something to make paint removal easy on my 82 vettes bumper covers, where did you get this SEM stuff and have you had any issues with it affecting the urethane at all. My bumpers have alot of paint on them and would take alot of sanding and since I've takin all the paint of the rest of the car why not go all the way. Let me tell you though using a heat gun and putty knife is alot of work to strip a vette LOL.

Got it at a local paint supply store. One thing it did to my bumpers was swell up some areas a little bit but it all returned to normal again after a day or two. Yuck dang vettes hehe, I painted an 86 for a guy a few years ago and it came out really nice. It was some red metallic color that just looked really good when the sun hit it.

- if you have the time, take the panel off the car, set it on a bench, and go out and buy about 10 sheets of 220 Waterproof sandpaper.... then wetsand until you get down to the original paint/gelcoat/or primer,
but if you are totally lookign to eliminate all paint, then use a chemical stripper
if you have any rock chips, scrapes gauges in the panel.. you can mix up some plastic-plastic epoxy, and dab it in there.. then go back and wetsand down the epoxy until it is flush with the normal surface of the panel

I used bumper stripper on my front bumper, which kinda sucked and I ended up wet sanding it anyhow.
I used 320grit on the rear bumper, and finished it off with 400.

The SEM stuff I hear does work better than the bulldog stuff i used. I wasn't impressed with the way the bulldog stuff worked though.
