Question about pitting

I did a search but found nothing. My car has some pitting in the metal, mainly on the pass. side at the bottom of the fender, and a little on the rear quarter. There's a pinch of pitting on the driver's side, as well but not much.

Anyway, my buddy tells me some careful grinding will take that off, then apply a thin layer of filler over it and sand it down smooth. Makes sense to me.

I'm not going for an award-winning show car. I'm going for a car that looks good and I can have fun with. So, is it OK to go by the above outlined method to dispose of this pitting? I'll probably replace the fender anyway...the spot underneath where the front gfx mounts rotted off. Fenders are cheap and easy to replace.

Thanks for any advice I can get from y'all!

Kevin

umm...if your gonna replace the fender eventually then mayb just replace the fender and dont bother fixing it, unless you care about it that much and fender replacement is years away. it sounds like a mickeymouse kinda job but ya itll work till your replace the fender, just get all the rust out before you bondo.

Yeah, the fender is the worst pitting on the car, which is why it's getting replaced. but there is still a bit of pitting on other panels. think the method i posted first would work for the couple spots that are pitted?

ya...if it was me (and im as @n@l as they come), depending on the placement of pitting, i would cut out the piece and replace it with a good piece from a doner car. if its at the corner of a panel and harder to cut away, then id sandblast that patch and re-assess it. but most ppl ya just bondo it up.

personally i hate using bondo, only time i use bondo is to get the perfect lines.
