is this 84 recaro t/a worth it? w/ pics

hey guys
i currently own a 92 civic but the third gen urge wont let me go! i think im going to sell it and get the car i wanted from the start. i saw this 84 recaro t/a in a junkyard while driving by, so i stopped and asked the owner how much he wanted and details on it. he wants around 600-700, maybe less...
-the car breaks down as follows; its been sitting for awhile, but the owner said he can get it running if i wanted. the car is manual. the car is one of the rare recaro t/a's.
-now for the bad, faded all around, interior is dirty and in some areas i recall the recaro seats being ripped.
-and now for the really bad, the car has a broken passenger window, and the tarp thing covering it wasnt covering the whole thing, so as a result, when it rains, the inside gets wet. there is like a big puddle inside each of the rear foot area's. this has led it along with canadian winters to have a hole in the floor, maybe two or more, not sure. i was wondering whether it was worth buying this car? i know you can buy aftermarket floor pans or just plug the hole, but in the long run is it worth it? won't the new welded in floor pans affect rigidity or what not? how much $$ will you guys say it will cost to bring it back to par
thanks in advance, AJ
here are some pics

If it was'nt for all that ROT.I would say its worth 6-700 bucks,The A-pillar & floor boards are the hardest to fix right.

i bought a trans am 1986 for 750. it ran and had a rebuilt automatic tranny.

i must of put 2,000 in maitenence and parts so far. still have to put 2-3 grand into body work. body is ok just between a new paint job and soem rust spots it will take sometime and money.

so depending on what you want thsi car for, project or jsut daily driver either way your paying some money to bring it back.

id suggest keep looking. go online search for cars in near by towns or cities. you can get a better car from 82-92 for teh same price. goodluck

jsut remember anything can be fixed jsut depends how mcuh your willing to spend.

now for the recaro trans am. i think its sweet that it is a recaro.

now for what i dont think is sweet.

The guy says he can get it to run, great. But it will take 2,000 in parts and labor to get the engine to even run decent. Including a new exhaust system.

probably some new engine sensors. plus you must clean that engine like its your first born. there must be soooooooo much carbon build up it won't make it very far down the road withotu damaging the engine more.

new tires and brakes- 500-800 dollars there depending on quality you get.

You're better off buying a Recaro T/A in good condition.

thanks for the responses guys. i was thinking this car was too much work too, but the only reason i was considering it was because it was a recaro t/a. i think will probably look for a camaro or t/a in the 2000-3000 price range now. again, thanks for the help guys

oh, btw. if i do get the seats, should i get front and back, or just fronts? and if i recover them, will they loose value?

-AJ

yes good thinkng and good luck. the only reason i bought my trans am in the condition it was in was becuase i was looking forward to fixing it. i dont know much but i wanted to learn as i went and learn about that car. and modify it to be better then stock. i have two other cars so im not dependent on it. like i said try to salvage any recaro pieces from that car and put it on antoher trans am. jsut an idea sicne the car itself is rare but the little piece that say recaro etc... are even harder to find.
----------
no they will not lose value if anything it will make your new trans am unique. or you can fix them up and sell them to someone who has a recaro. i would only get the rear if they say recaro somewhere. but definately get the fronts. maybe the outside door handles if they say recaro as well. probably get them for like 5 bucks a piece give or take. depends on the junk yard owner.

I have never even seen a recaro in real life...lol... so definetly get all the unique parts she has. I would offer him 400 bucks for the car, salvage what you can a find another Trans Am. Good hunting.

Offer him $3-400, tow it away, and salvage what you can from it. I have seen very few Recaro T/As from any year. That A-pillar looks pretty well shot, and a wet interior with rusted out floor boards is too far gone for a restorable Third Gen. Shame to see a unusual Bird fade away, but you'd be wasting your money on her.
