So Im painting my Car soon

1st of all, my car now is spray painted, it is straight rattle canned... So that being said any paint job is better than what I have now.

So I know a guy who paints cars in his garage, and he told me he would sand and paint my car for a couple hundred dollars$ and I supply the paint. I myslef know nothing about paint besides that I am going to need a primer coat, a base coat, and a clear coat. I dont know what type of paint to buy, all I know is that Im painting it Black. So now thats where I need help I need to know what type of paint to buy and where to buy it as well as what color primer would be best just for a black car.

Thank you for reading and any help will be appreciated.

You could of just edited the other post rather than start a new one. Ask around a paintshop around you would be more than willing to answer those questions.

edit: if you have the funds dont cheap out. get the good stuf

Oooo, this thread makes more sense than the other. Anyways, I agree with my man above, just go to ur paint supplier and ask them, they will tell you everything you need to know. I am actually painting my car next week, 3K. If this guy does a really good job, that is awesome.

got any pics of the flat black paint job, I too was gonna paint mine flat/primer black and wanted to see a preview of what it will look like. Also I have silver ground affects, do you think I should paint that black as well or would it look ok if i left that silver (silver being a basecoat/clearcoat application if it would look funny with a flat paint)

I think flat black looks nice accented by parts that are base/clear, so It would probley look fine. I dont have any pictures yet Im going to probley paint it once I find a new passenger side fender and buy all the paint. So I dont know when that will be but Ill post them when I get them.

i'm gonna use ICI base, should be able to cover in 2qts,a gallon of clear and some reducer, thought of using PPG,and still might, but it'd take 3qts of it,the ICI will cover more for less, but if iI run alittle short, another qt will make it alot more $$ than the PPG at 4qts,black should be alot cheaper than my red,but expect to pay @400 for the supplies, not counting prep

The paint I plan on using now is only $90 a gallon hahahaha its straight flat black and doesn't use a clear coat its kinda like AE but not bc its flat. I'm just going to buy some primer and do a few coats, sand it how I like and then do a couple coats of flat black. Thanks for the advice though if I ever get a REAL paint job done Ill have to look into that a lot more.
