i have to do the same exact thing on my 82 t/a as soon as i find a clean QP skin off a car

if anyone has one to cut off and sell or trade me for somethin let me know

when i do it i will get a spotweld drill bit and drill the spotwelds

its a special bit

works great

the last time i needed one i was given one from one of the local autobody repair shops since no stores here sell them, it was a pretty well used one but i only needed it to drill a few spot welds out

you need to find one to do it right

otherwise i dunno

you have pics of your QP repair ?

id love to see pics of where your cutting and how much of your QP skin youre replacing

heres my rusted driver side QP right now:

also what do you plan on using to smooth out the transition overlap between the replacement and factory original skins ?

good luck and thanks for anything

The easiest way to find the spot welds is to take a angle grinder with a wire wheel and go after the area where they should be as in the door jamb, by the tail lights and in the fender lip. You should be able to tell by where the small dent is where they are. You dont need a special bit, if you cant find one just use regular drill bits, work up to a size that cuts the weld good enough to pull it away. You dont need to drill all the way through though I have and havent. On my pickup it was about a 5/16" bit if I remember right.
