functional hood

looks like a very good idea, any one on here try it?
i kinda imagine it would rip the louvers off pretty quickly though...

I've always thought about that, but I wouldnt want something like that in any kind of torrential rain, and down here in Georgia, we dont get any snow, but torrential rains... Yes. And suddenly.

I've been thinking about doing that to my 87 while I've got it all apart for paint. My car isn't a daily driver so I'm not as worried about the water. i'm more concerned about the heat from the engine and any smells coming stright out of the louvers and into the fresh air vent at the base of the windshield.....and into the car.........anybody tried it?

Looks interesting. That was a mod that i ( and im sure many iroc owners) have considered. I wouldnt be too worried about rain since ive hosed off my (underhood area) many times without issues. Giver her a shot, ive seen any vented hood'ed cars that havnt had any serious problems.

That being said i dont see any significant hp improvements happening with this mod except a lower engine temp.

THe only reason I even thought about doing it was to let the heat out from under the hood faster..My car's main purpose is to go to open track days where my foot's to the floor for up to 40 minutes at a time.....so far it's kept it's cool, but I also don't do it in july or august.......

i wouldnt worry to much about that, cause thats basicly what cowl hoods do but worse
right?

Someone one should build a pan to mount under the louvers and pipe the cold air into the carb or injection which ever one you've got. Kinda like the early 90's SS Camaro's.
