Power Window Regulator

I believe I have to replace the motor & regulator. I searched this forum and there seems to be 2 ways to do this. One way you roll down the window half-way and leave the window channels in place and snake out the assy. The other way is to lower the window and then remove 2 channels, then the assy.

Which way would easier? If I leave the window half-way, I'm going to lock the window in place by using soft jawed clamps...
I would rather NOT remove the channels, but if it's the better way...

Re: Power Window Regulator

halfway up or down is good because at that point the reg arms are pretty well horizontal and straight, i supposed if you unbolted the reg assembly and unplugged the motor you could then get the rollers out of the glass roller channel, leaving the glass and everything else in place

you cold probably wedge pieces of wood or something between the glass and door along the bottom of the glass door opening

i would think

good luck

Re: Power Window Regulator

I am in the process of removing my manual windows and putting in power windows. I just left the windows (manual and power) down all the way, ground down the rivets, drilled em out, then took the whole assembly out the back of the door. Once its loose, its quite easy to just push back and slide those rollers out of the channels. You'll probably have to take out the most rear ward vertical channel though. Just mark the location of the bolts before you do.

Re: Power Window Regulator

Do you think that if you left the window in the middle that you could leave the channel in? Because the arms would be level...

Re: Power Window Regulator

I doubt it because of the way the regulator is and the size of it. Trust me, it isnt as difficult as you're thinking it will be.
