Low Tension Hood Springs

Hi Everyone,
I recently purchased an aftermarket fiberglass hood for my 89 Firebird Formula. I know I need to get low-tension hood springs to use with it. However, I am having trouble locating any for my year. Can anyone refer me to a site that sells them? I tried Jegs & Summit, but their spring years only go up to 1981.

Thanks!

Our cars use hood struts, not springs... you're looking at first/second gen parts.

Oh (insert icon of my hand hitting my forehead)

This is probably another dumb question but... will the factory hood struts work ok with the fiberglass?

Thanks!

Re: Low Tension Hood Springs

Usually it's best to get the light duty struts, it could work for a while but it will be putting a lot of stress at the back of the hood. Maybe see if your hood manufacturer offers them or possibly advance auto or something. I couldn't find any on summit, but they do exist.

One other thought... some of the earlier thirdgens came with factory fiberglass hoods, so there should be factory replacement struts which would be perfect for your application.

Re: Low Tension Hood Springs

Order a set of hood struts for a 82 Z28 camaro with a fiberglass hood. those came factory with the fiberglass hood like on my car. The other trick is you can use the ones for a metal hood but get used worn out ones. That's what I have on my car. It gets the job done. But mine happen to be a little to weak. Just need to get the ones for an 82. Would be better. Adam :-)

Re: Low Tension Hood Springs

I'll check into those 82 hood struts.

Thank you both for your input. It is very appreciated!
