hi, what do you guys think about this?
hi, what do you guys think about this?
sorry if i seem like a noob, im new to thirdgen.org but ill give you the run down of what i have planned for my bird.its a 87 firebird, v6, i bought it when i was 14 years old for $200 and have put a fair amount into it fixing little odds and ends until i moved from the farm into the city where it has just been sitting waiting for me to have money, i bought a 90 sierra for $2000 that i drove for 7 months then sold for $2200 (score
) and now drive a purple 95 escort lol. good on gas, cheap insurrance....leave me alone.
well my break has finally come i found another 87 bird at the auto wreckers with a hooped tranny and interior, its got all the parts i need to fix my body damage. i dont really need help with anything i just thought id make this thread to get to know you all as im sure ill need help sooner or later with my bird. so hi, nice to meet you all and heres my bird.
(when i was buying it 2 and a half, almost 3 years ago)

(arriving at the farm for the first time, my dad drove it home because i was at work and couldnt drive stick at the time)

(i know the cheapo walmart nos seat covers are corny, but they work for now on a tight budget :P)

ive fixed lots of little details on the car like the door sagging, the tail lights, some interior trim, locks, and so forth already. i have a huge dent in my driver side front fender ill be replacing off of the junk car, along with my passenger side door that got vandalized while it was stored at my grandmas, and some odds and ends i need. what do you guys think guys? be nice. i know its not the nicest thing around but for $200....

Re: hi, what do you guys think about this?
In time you will have a sweet car. Keep us updated on the progress. Not that bad now, i had 1 as a winter car, 1986 trans am. Looked great but was a bondo bucket and the floors where gone. Got the engine and trans outa her though for future autos. use every part u can off the parts car. trust me there are parts on these cars that are hard to find and worth gobs.
Re: hi, what do you guys think about this?

If i had it to do over i would have kept my first f-body (1984 camaro) but i didnt realize the love i would come to have for these cars and now that i look back on it my oldest car had the best interior man whats up with that?shop around for parts and fab up as many as you can to save some money and for a low budget motor swap try to find a used vortec truck motor and have fun.....

Welcome aboard, man! Great project, you should have tons of fun with it. Hey, I'm definitely no expert either, I spend most of my time stumbling around in the dark when it comes to cars.
Listen to these guys on this site and read, read , read, and you should be ok.

Welcome. I did almost the exact same thing as you did. I bought an 86 bird with the 2.8/auto when I was in th grade for 250 bucks. Unfortunately my dad and I didnt know much about these cars and some rookie mistakes and things like that caused me to fry the motor. I am going to start workin on her in a couple weeks when I come home for summer break. Congrats on the car it looks very nice for what you paid for it. Keep us posted.

it looks as if someone swapped in a 4th gen console or just the console lid.
Re: hi, what do you guys think about this?

220 horse doesnt sound like much but that was my favorite vehicle so far. my escort being the least favorite... damn fords. that and the 1.9l is only putting down 88 horsepower lol... i dont even try to **** around with it becuase after i tried one slide with the e brake im like....whats the point. what am i trying to prove? lol. fwd sucks.. anyway back to my bird ill keep progress posted im unfortunately looking for a new job right now because im not getting the hours i need at my current job anymore, went from 5 days a week to 2.... so the bird and all else is on hold at the moment but after i get a new job thats more steady i got $500 to pay off on the escort, and then the bird will be under going some serious changes. ill get up a pic of the parts car tomorow

Re: hi, what do you guys think about this?
yeah my dad had to pretty much force me to get the seat covers, cause they say nos... theres nothing close to nos in my car and well you know its just corny lol. but they definately made it look alot nicer for the time being, anyways. i just got some other debts/bills to pay off then ill be directing my funds towards the bird. im hoping to have it on the road legally by july
