Hood stuck on 1991 firebird

I put my 1991 firebird up for the winter and come this spring I went to open the hood and the latch is busted...the cable that runs from the interior of the car to the latch under the hood is broke.I crawled under the car and saw where the cable ends. The cable seems like it has too much slack. I need to get my hood open. This is driving me crazy. Is there any trick to getting this hood open? When I do pull on the hood release, all I can hear is a click click, so I crawled under while a buddy pulled on the hood release. The cable just moves to the left when he pulls on it, while I am under the car. I can get the hood somewhat open to see the spring and the latch that you pull up on to release the hood all the way. But I cannot seem to get the hood to that open position to get that latch open release the hood fully. Please help me. I need to sell this car and can't do that with a crappy engine LOL. Thanks.

the only thing I can suggest is if you reach round while under the car use a socket and unbolt the latch then use a screwdriver to hit the lever that hold the hood down

Re: Hood stuck on 1991 firebird

Common problem

How it works:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/body...ighlight=latch

If you dont want to crawl under the car and fiddle with the latch then just pull the release and vibrate the back the hood by hand, itll usually pop
If your hood is damaged and you dont care about a slight warp then slid your fingers in the seam where you would pull the safety catch, now with gentle upwards pressure, lightly tap the latch area with your fist. If these dont work then youll have to crawl under the car

on my 92 my hood has done that several times. What you do is pull the latch, then tap on the hood (not real hard, but a good rap) a few times on either side near the front and the hood usually pops up.

Same thing here on my 92 Formula. Just gave it a smack or two on the bumper cover, usually comes up but not all the time. Mine is because of a accident that pushed the bumper cover up to the fender so I had to open the hood and manually raise my headlights. All that is fixed now with a new fender and bumper cover.
