RUST!!!

Hi guys I got a problem.
I found rust under my windscreen in the drain area, When it was converted to RHD they moved the fan\heater box to the left side but in the conversion the water drain hole was siliconed up and that caused alot of rust and a hole about 60 to 70mm wide and about 30mm high with abit of surrounding rust (there are pics at the bottom of post) what my main problem is here there ain't just one hole going from the drain area to behind the quarter panel but there second hole going from behind the quarter panel into the engine bay 10x30mm and a third hole under the main one about 15x30mm going into the cab causing bad flooding after rain or a good wash, would anyone have any advice on how id go about fixing this so it is not a problem again in the future.
I want to do a real good job of this so all help is greatly appreciated.

Re: RUST!!!

Well, probably the best way would be to remove all the rusted metal then fabricate a patch and weld it in. After that, paint it with some good quality rust preventative paint and seam sealer. I am not quite sure where this area is, so it might be hard to get the mig welder in there to do the repair. Either way something needs to be done; it's only going to get worse.

Hey Venom you might want to translate to inches. Most people on this site have no idea how big the area your talking about is. We never went metric here.

70mm = 2.75"
60mm = 2.36"
15mm = 0.59"
30mm = 1.18"

Re: RUST!!!

It was just as bad on my 87 camaro and my 84 TA isn't far behind(havn't got to it yet). In my camaro I did what RAD5 suggested. It's really the only thing you can do. you could try and find a car in a junk yard that isn't rusted up and cut the piece from it...but in your area these cars are prolly hard to come by. fabrication seems to be the way to go.

Re: RUST!!!

well im pulling the quater panel off next weekend to see how big of a job this is gona be, i have got a mig and i know how to use it! :P but i will take some more shots of it once the quater panel is off and that should give you a better idear of where it is. It is in the water drain under the wind screen, just behing the quater panel and just over the vent in the quater panel (you can see the back of the vents mesh in the last picture).
