Newb to TGO! Need Help
Newb to TGO! Need Help
Hi guys, I am new to Third Gen Org but have been in the Third Gen Scene for a while now. I have a 92' RS that has been at a standstill now for over a year. I am having a difficult time deciding on where to go from where I am now, and was hoping you all could shove me in the right direction. I have a full roll cage w/subframe connectors and jacking rails. All of the interior is new or restored except seats, (thinking Recaro or equiv.). Has new wheels and I bought an all new front end and fenders just before the general quit selling them, along with a 4" Goodmark cowl hood. etc.etc.etc. I wanted originally to throw the Spohn catalog at it for suspension, add a LSX N/A motor, a 6 speed Tremec, carbon fiber driveshaft, and a S60 rear. Now I have been leaning toward a large carbed LSX, 2 speed powerglide, and the formentioned drivetrain setup, but with more of a drag setup than street. I still would like to drive it to cruises either way I go, but I can't help but think I am going to miss not really being able to drive it on the street. Help! I am so lost in my own ideas this "simple project" as I used to call it is snowballing! I attached some pics: take a look and give me your opinion. Click on the pics for larger detail! Thanks...

why did you get a new nose and fenders? your current ones look fine. just to have spares on hand?
do NOT make the car a pain to drive on the street. there are a few guys in my carclub who have realy good drag cars, one in perticular has made his car a PITA to drive on the street.now he takes his GFs honda whenever he can. you love driving your camaro now, avoid modifications that will change that. atleast thats my opinion.
sweet car by the way, welcome to TGO

I'm living in Baytown Texas.
I got a new nose because it was starting to sag a little and it bothered me to no end. The new fenders I bought because they were being phased out by the General at the time and the dealer had both on hand so I got them while I could.
I really don't drive this car enough for mods to make it a PITA to drive. I'm used to crawling in and out of cages and tuning carbs, and adjusting solid rollers on the side of the street. I just can't really focus in on a direction with this car. I can see doing so many things, that i'm actually lost on direction from this point.

Why not just get another one, and make one of each? Take the best body parts, interior parts, etc. and make a perfect restore - take the roll cage and the not perfect parts and make a dragster. I don't know about there, but around here (NC), 3rd gens are easily found pretty cheap (under 1k).

If you've got that kind of money to throw at your car, then I would get a second "grocery getter" of a third-gen, and just go *****-to-the-wall with your current one.
I see decent, reliable third-gens go for 1K-2K in Kansas all the time. I bought a rust-free Arizona-based garage queen for only $3500 2yrs ago. And that guy had two others!! Only reason he sold it is he ran out of room in his garage.
An LSX motor is the creme of the crop now-a-days. Crazy power, very stout long block, and lightweight(relativly speaking) to boot. If you put boost on those engines, I doubt anything short of a tube-chassis funny car will keep up.

So, basically you're asking carbed/auto or fi/m6 or maybe a combo of the two?
I would have to say go fuel injected m6. They make wiring harnesses, so everything is easy to hook up. You have the reliability of it for cruises and whatnot. It sounds like you like to mess with carbs and stuff though, so getting it tuned for mods would probably be a downside for you.
I think you need to tell us more about what you want to do with it. How much horsepower do you want and how much the consistent track times an auto will give you mean to you.
