Base/Clear Painting

Im going to be painting my camaro here in a few weeks and I was just wondering how much paint Ill need (base, reducer, clear, primer). Ive read a few books and have begun doing my body work. This is my first time doing a base/clear job and I am open to any suggestions you guys can give that might help. Also, I am looking for a decent gun to lay the paint down with. Not just the bare minimum but something midrange that will give me the most bang for my buck. I also plan on painting my jeep after the camaro so I will be using it for that too.

Also, what type of clear would work best with PPG economy basecoat(I know its not the best and while I would have no problem spending more for premium, I know I will probably be unhappy with this job and redo it next spring anyways.)

Re: Base/Clear Painting

For a gun I bought a devilbiss starting line two gun set for like $100 (primer gun and a finish gun with all kinds of extras) and it works decent. It all depends on how much you wanna spend. If you got $500 to blow go sata. I've heard good about the sharpe line as well. Not sure what clear goes good with omni ppg tho sorry.

Re: Base/Clear Painting

sharpe is an exceptional manufacturer of guns. sata is just overpriced for a DIYer. Not even a reason buying a gun that's that much better than the painter, no offense.

oh and give more info, how much you plan to cover, what color over what color, you also need to know the reduction of your clear and paint.
