Sandblasting my Rearend
I have a 9 bolt rear, complete with brakes and sway bar. I want to sandblast it to remove some rust and then give it a quick shot of paint.
I am having a guy install new gears. So...should I blast and paint the rear before he works on it or afterwards.
Also, when I blast it, do I need to remove the brakes and brakes lines? Or can I just wrap up the rotors and calipers in cardboard or plastic or something?

If you're having gears put in, the entire thing's going to be apart with no brakes on it anyway, so clean it and paint it then.

Yeah, we put a dana under our drag car and cleaned it, sandblasted it, cleaned the inside with a wax and grease remover. then put it together
btw use styrofoam cups in the axle tubes and frt of centersection to keep the sand out(these won't hold up to a lot of direct sand but they keep 99.9% out of the rear and),and put the cover over the back tokeep the sand out.

Re: Sandblasting my Rearend
When I sandblasted my rear i left the pumpkin cover, rotors, and backing plates on it. The rear was already worked on before I got it, but I wanted to freshen it up before I put it on. I ended up going with a summit girdle and 4th gen brakes so everything worked out well, now getting the old third gen rotors off, that's a whole different story
