Backglass defrost delete?

Hey guys! Here's my problem, Im buying a new backglass this week but I wanted to go with a glass w/o defrost. Here in Canada, it has been discontinued, so the only choice left is a glass w defrost.

I wonder if I could remove the defrost lines/strips things from the new glass. Anyone ever did this? What should I use, a plastic scrapper?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Is it clean where the defrost lines were? I mean, is there any residue or anything that is visible from the outside or the inside?

Plastic scraper wont get it off. That stuff is on there pretty good. Try a razor blade; stainless wont scratch glass. Or a blade and a harsh solvent (methylene chloride based stripper). Making "stripper in a can" jokes is optional, but I always do

Re: Backglass defrost delete?

it would be waaay to much work to take it off, just buy a used one . I got one off a member on here . But a jumkyard should be able to find you one , worst case you have to get one from the ole usa .

Yeah, I guess Im gonna go ahead and pay 800$ for a new one. Used one I saw arent in good condition. Its hard to find a scratchless, non-pited, 20+ years old glass.

Re: Backglass defrost delete?

I wouldn't buy a new one, thats crazy. I had the defrost glass...I went to my local junkyard and found a camaro with the glass no defrost or 3rd brake light. It looked terrible. I cant think of words to explain it. Anyways, I was totally against buying it, but I bought it anyway for $110. I spent like a week getting old tint and crap off, and cleaning it. It looks brand new now. Sold my old glass for $25.

Now I know you are in Canada, so finding a defrost-delete glass is probably not going to happen...but you could atleast find one with the defrost. I would do that before I spent $800 on a new one.

Also don't count on removing the defrost lines...I tried that before I went and bought one. It won't work.
