Need Sanding Paint suggestions.

I am in the process or repainting a Firebird. I have a couple of layers of paint on the car already due to an opps in a previous paint job, I was tempted to strip the car down to the original paint which I may end up doing anyways.

My question has to do with the highlight creases that run down each side of the Firebird hood. THe peak down the center easy to get nice and sharp but when I was sanding I did not want to make the crease rounded at the bottom. I started with some 120 grit and tried to block the crease in and then came back with some 180 on a DA to get the scrathces out which worked...

I was wondering if there was a trick to it or if I was on the right track.
