replacement sheetmetal for a camaro

well the required body work on my camaro looks a lot more extensive then when i first bought it. seems the previous owner hid a LOT with bondo and primer. there's rust underneath ALOT...

i've decided to replace both front fenders, the driver-side door skin, the rear-driver side quarter panel, and the hood.

my question is where's the best place to get replacement parts... honestly i have considered going to autozone or another parts store because i won't have to pay for shipping... i just pay and come pick it up when the part arrives. my fear is that the parts they will sell me will be substandard... i don't want to buy a fender only to find out it doesn't fit and i can't return it.

i've also been looking into getting parts form yearone. anyone have any experience with them?

do you not have a junkyard where you live? one of the junkyards here ALWAYs has atleat 4 or 5 f-bodys and usually the fenders are in great condition except a paint job of course

Yeah, fenders and doors at a junkyard are a good place to look. Any real GM parts, even if a parts store orders it, will rape you. I think $1,000 is what NewGMparts wanted for a door skin. Quarter pannels at a junkyard can be hard. You need to have a way to remove them, and there arn't exactly an abundance of power outlets in the junkyard. Torch could warp the pannel, unless it's a plasma cutter and you go slow. Battery dremel is the best, with spare battery.

Re: replacement sheetmetal for a camaro

every f-body in the yard i went to was either already stripped to nothing or mangled/rusted. already went down that route.

i should check again in a few weeks to see if they have any new cars... i doubt it though.

aftermarket parts seem ALOT cheaper than original GM parts... no way i will ever go that route. priced at autozone, it seems like i can get a set of fenders out the door for 275. i don't believe a doorskin will cost a grand. i understand if its a GM part... my GTO is in the body shop, getting OEM GM parts. over 1600 for the entire quarter panel assm. the driver side fender is 500 something... good thing the ins. is covering THAT...

no original GM body parts for this camaro. aftermarket or used only...

There's a reason they are cheaper. The fitment is hit or miss. I had one on a Camaro that would never line up right, and it was brand new. I threw a used one on and took all 5 minutes to have everything right.
