bumper compatability

im guaging in buying a bumper off a member its a two peice with the bumper and bottom ground effect from an 84 Z. the only thing is it has a grille like center on the bottom spoiler its a two peice like our later models but mine is solid from end to end and about 3-4 inches from top to bottom, this one looks like its alot shorter in height. anybody know if there is a compatibility issue with my 89 rs?

Re: bumper compatability

I believe it will bolt onto the car just fine, but the different style ground effects may make the car look a little funky. For example, have you ever seen a firebird with 85-90 body gfx and 91-92 front bumper cover?Pretty hideous IMO.The combination of parts you are looking at might compliment each other though, not sure because I've never seen it done.Anyone here got suggestions or pics of mounting early thirdgen gfx on an 89?

Re: bumper compatability

your on the right track of what i was thinking. the only thing is i would prolly not mount the ground effect on this car because i dont like the way it looks with the grill like center..now can i mount a later model ground effect on this bumper? cuz i can get one of those cheap just not the nose peice..

Re: bumper compatability

yeah, looks like it might work but you may need to do some mod work with some flexible filler. In the pic you can't see the bottom (mounting part of the gfx piece) on the bumper cover. They may be diff. between the year models, not 100% sure but overall the mounting area appears the same,so if the mounting points don't line up perfectly on the gfx piece just put a few screws or clamps in place to hold it in place to see how it looks and go from there.

Re: bumper compatability

i can work with filler and such but the bottom of the nose looks like its just one piece doesnt it? no provisions for mounting a bottom spoiler...idk maybe it just seems that way from sitting in the grass..i think i'll just pick up the nose piece and find a spoiler somewhere

Re: bumper compatability

those groud effects will only fit 82-84 front bumpers.. yu need a 85-92 front bumper to use different ground effects.. unless your willing to modifiy the bumper to make it work.. ut its still not going to look right

Re: bumper compatability

that bumper cover looks like its from a 82-84 sport coupe which is just a one peice bumper, 82-84 z's had a two peice bumper and both parts of it are different than the 85+ bumpers and i'm pretty sure it won't just bolt on.
