Re: stripping tips?

That bumper looks a little rough, got a replacement for it?If not,I think I would locate one that has less damage.Alot less time money and effort replacing it with one in fair or good shape than trying to repair a badly damaged one.

Re: stripping tips?

i dont have a replacement but this one wont be staying on it for long. We're stripping the entire car, fixing the little rust that it has, and putting it in black primer. When i get it painted this summer i will be getting new bumpers put on it before i do. The front bumper isnt really as bad as it looks. It has alot of paint blown off of it, but the only real problem is the 6 inch crack that goes from the top of the passanger side driving light and heads upwards. We were just gonna use bondo on that since the bumper is only temporary anyways.

I believe theres a thread in here about bumper repair thast pretty straightforward. I wouldnt bondo it even if its temp itll suck lol. Do a search on bumper repair. It should be the one where you drill some small holes and use some flexible filler.

Re: stripping tips?

As for taking the paint off, you can use chemical strippers or do it with sanders. You could also take it to a soda baster and have them blast it off if you want to take the car further apart. Chemical is messy and you have to be careful where you put/leave it. Sanding it is more work. I've sanded the few I have done. Use aggressive sandpaper/tools to take it down and switch to the grit your primer manufacture recommends. I user 40/80 grit on a DA.

Wet sanding is only when you get much further along - after base primer, body work, more primer, more dry sanding, more primer, ....

However, if most of your paint is still solid - I would just fix the bad spots, hit the existing paint with a DA, seal/prime, body work, prime/seal, and paint. Stripping a car to bare metal isn't always the best way - the factory primer/coating is a good base. Stripping the car will cost a bunch more. If you do strip it, do 1 panel at a time. Get the panel in Epoxy primer before starting the next.

try 2 part epoxy and then bondo over it....the epoxy will hold and keep it from flexing too much
