Bent Bumper Cover

Hello,
Unfortunately when I got lazy and quit working on my car for awhile, I propped stuff against my rear bumper, now it seems that the cover is bent where I had something leaning against it. Is their any to straighten it back out?

Re: Bent Bumper Cover

A heat gun may work, but urethane is so flexible it is really going to want to stay bent, since having weight on it stretched the urethane. I have had some good luck w/ heating and bending urethane, but I have also had some really bad luck. It's worth a try, you aren't going to make it any worse.

Re: Bent Bumper Cover

we used to set bumpers out in the sun at the body shop (plastics have a memory, and want to go back to their original shape) if you use a heat gun be very careful not to overheat it, if you can get behind and push it do that while it's still cold (if you start when hot it may over do it) if it doesn't want to move then heat it a little and lightly push out (you may find just the heat brings it back though)

Re: Bent Bumper Cover

heat it with a heat gun and push it out with a blunt/flat object then when its close to shape remove the heat gun and pour cold water on it. like others have said be carefull not to melt it.
