Rust lookout
Hello All,
I am helping a friend purchase a 3rd gen and I looked under and noticed that the swaybar bushing holder (clips) and gearbox had some rust nothing major but is this normal for a 20 something car, seems like just suspension part (rebuildable anyways), or should he stay away, also no rust on body. Please help

Re: Rust lookout
personally i would look everywhere underneath especially the floor pan area to check for rust. If that';s the only area then i say no big deal. just get the new sway bar pieces.

Re: Rust lookout
I personally wouldn't worry about it in those spots or any other part on the car that can be replaced fairly easily. What you have to watch out for is rusty floors, t-top openings, quarter panels, or any other part of the unibody it's self. Any of those things can be fixed but it's usually a PITA.
A little rust like you described might actually work in your favor if you can use it to get them to drop the price.

Re: Rust lookout
thanks for your respones, no rust on floor or any other places, just the normal places, the only thing I would get replaced would be the calipers or atleast paint them as they are a little rusty, all in all I believe my friend will get a good buy for $1000, car is a 1988 Camaro RS with no t-tops (on less rust spot to worry about), 305 5 speed, hunter green, tan interior, no dents ot dings, carfax came up clean, paint is still shiny, interior is awesome, only thing is that is has 185k miles but still runs strong. I tell him to sign up to this site as it is a great place for info. thanks again.

Re: Rust lookout
that seems a good price i think. try the NADAguide.com to double check the dealer retail price for the mileage and condition.
