It's been a while since I've given an update on my 84 T/A.I've finished undercoating my underbody and touching up select locations in my interior with POR-15. I'll be applying new insulation to my interior firewall next. the insulation just arrived in the mail today.
what the floor pans looked like before:
ugly dirty rubberized undercoating

most of it scraped away:

next I used mineral spirits and a rag to remove most of the remnants. Then I used a sanding wheel on a drill to get it down to original paint and metal. No pic for that. Then i prepped and did POR-15 along with Por-15 Topcoat over the entire floor pans. Here is how they look now:

I also hit the interior with POR 15 where there was rust:

and i covered where I had Paul (my friend from PM Performance) do seam welding around the T-bar. I had the front done also, but pictured is the rear. He also fabricated the crossmember shown for the T-56:

It's been a ton of work, but should hold up for a good long time.
Here are the new leather seats I got for the interior. I also got a 4th gen center console. I'll have to snap a picture of that too

what do you guys think? I know it isn't the most glamourous stuff, but it'll help the car last a long time.

Nice work! I wish I had the patience to scrape all that crud off... The 86 I just picked up has super low garage kept miles. But its underside is like that. My 87 was the same way... I found that that stuff cleaned off pretty easy with brake cleaner. Like...scrape the big deposits off, then use brake cleaner and it would take it to the "grey" coating before bare metal.
If I have the car down to nothing underneith, Ill probably do the same as you. Although, you should have had to top coat the por-15 right? Its not gonig to see UV rays, so it should be ok just to use the por 15 paint itself. Ive also thought about doing it in por-15, then maybe using some duplicolor spray on bed liner just to give it another coating of something...but we'll see.
That nice smooth bottom has to do something for areodynamics right? haha..

Looks real good, I did the exact same thing to mine. It took me hours to scrape the paint off the floor pans and rear end. It was'nt to much fun laying on my back under the car for hours but well worth it in the end.
thanks for the comments guys. The mineral spirits pretty much served the same function for me that you used the brake cleaner for. The "topcoat" i was talking about is actually another product made by the POR-15 company. It's similar to the traditional POR-15, but made to apply to painted surfaces rather than bare metal. I hit all the bare metal spots with POR-15 first, then coated everything with the POR-15 Topcoat. The Topcoat is a bit thicker though, so when brushed on it left some brush marks and didn't leave the same smooth glossy finish that POR-15 alone does.
