83 and 84 z hoods

83 and 84 z hoods

my 84 hood has those inserts into it to fill in the scoop so it dosent go into bay but im wondering if i can pull those outta there so its like the 83z with functional scoops, i have seen some nuts under the hood which i asume are for the inserts i just havent had time to pick at it latley any help is great

The inserts come off easy enough with the 2 nuts. If you cut em out, you'll just need to figure out how to keep the water out also. I was gonna do the same but decided against it.

you have to cut the inserts out if it's a non-functional hood. i made little brackets that hold the covers on when i'm not at the track. here's a pic of it with the covers off before paint:

i never thought about the water and since my car aint no trailer princess thats a problem looks like a got some thinkin to do, any ideas?

gonna subscribe to this thread. I have yet to find out any good ways of keeping water out. I have just been drivin without them which is pretty bad considering i live in the rainy city of Seattle!

i'll grab some pics with the flaps in later this week. it's pretty easy to make a couple of brackets so they'll bolt right in. a small rubber seal would make them completely waterproof, but i don't daily drive this car, so i'm not that worried aboout it.

Ditto! I have the same setup as Jake and have been driving with them open, now my "new" Blaster coil is rusted all to crap!

While were on the subject of these hoods, mine is a functional one, and its coming apart!

Some one tell me how to fix this?
