t/a hood mod

has anybody ever modded a firebird hood so the flip up light were totally deleted? ie welding in sheet metal panels into the hood where the lights normally pop up.

Re: t/a hood mod

The headlight area is already flat so that wont be difficult. Stock hoods are steel which is easy to weld to. Aftermarkets are fiberglass which is just as easy to adhere a sheet to
You just have to find a new place for the headlights

Re: t/a hood mod

perhaps I will be the first to do this mod, in this way. I will be using my stock t/a hood. Just thinking about what headlights to use and whether they will pass a safety(probably the gp lights)I'm gonna talk to my buddy that does my safetys and see if a gp light will pass since it is dot. I still don't understand why nobody has done the flip up delete mod in this manner(welding steel to the hood, making it a "full" hood).but anyway, if my buddy says it'll pass, then I will be doing this very soon(after the two patches in my pass. floor)

Re: t/a hood mod

I think a camaro hood bends down towards the front more then a firebird one, thats the only thing I can think of.

Fender lines and front lip are different

Camaro hoods dont work at all
If its a glass hood you can cut and splice, but thats all

Re: t/a hood mod

ok randy82ws7 in my opinion the stockers look like **** open.
They're not broken..Im not "fixing" them.
They do look really nice how they came off the assembly line...shut.
"save yourself work time $ and headache"
I like working on my car..time is free(when I am not at work)
$-So far I am looking at about 50-75$
and the headache part....I feel I am more than competent enough to do this..and make it look good. Not tryin' to be a **** or anything...I am sure alot of people on here would agree that a firebird would look badass with this mod.

Re: t/a hood mod

i need to replace the bushings in my headlights, have to manualy open and close them by hand when going from day to night that sucks. I would rather just find a way to mount lights into the front of the closed assembly and stop them from opening.

Re: t/a hood mod

i actualy have the bushing kit from top down solutions but i get out of work and by the time i get home its dark and i have no light to get in there and pull the units. Then theres figuring out how to get the bolts back on the hold the assembly to the frame behing the lights. Theres the little holes but no spot to access to get the dam things back on.

Many, many, many times....For the last 10 years or so. Search for threads about non pop-up lights. I think Redraif is the mot :"famous" person here to do it & (AFAIK) the first person to.

Discussed & done. See above.

Not a chance. The curvature is way too different to be done. Just use a 'bird hood & "weld" the headlight doors to the hood. Or get a 'glass hood without headlight door cut-outs. VFN already has some.

Just the opposite. The Firebird nose is lower. From the firewall to the strut towers, the hoods are the same. Forward of the strut towers, the Firebird nose is approx. 4" lower.

Do it on a weekend. It takes 2 hours tops if you have no idea what you're doing

Any sort of fixed light mod will take significantly longer than that

Removing the headlight assemblies is simple enough, but in this case completely unnecessary. With the headlights in the 'up' position you can easily reach all 3 mounting bolts and the arm nut from below. Just pull the motors
