weather strip problems

two summers ago, i replaced the t-top seals on my car (but only on the car...not on the t-top itself) so for christmas i asked for the t-top only seals, as the back of the passenger side seal sprung a leak and during hard rain storms i'd find a small pond in the back of my car.

today i replaced the seals on the t-top itself, and i gave it a little 'false rain' (a.k.a. put the hose on the roof) and by golly, there is still a leak...i think i can see the problem and that is where the seals are supposed to butt together, there is just a little tiny gap there...

is there any way to patch this up other than buying a new passenger side t-top seal?
thanks,
-Brian

Re: weather strip problems

Did you seal everything up with the good 3M weatherstrip adhesive/sealer?

Always a good idea to check the tech articles... I see a T-Top weatherstrip install guide and a leak fix guide.

Re: weather strip problems

buy some 3M weatherstrip adhesive. It's not as thick as caulk so will run into the area that needs filling.

Re: weather strip problems

i have that, but that would work if i planned on gluing my t-tops down....the gap is in the back most right side of the passenger t-top seal...where the seal from the t-top itself meets the seal from the car itself....there is a gap between those two seals that needs to be filled somehow, preferably if i could actually pull the seals on the car out a little, that would fix it, but theyre glued in place with the 3M weather strip adhesive

i had the same problem before i put my car away for winter. i filled the hell out of that spot with chalking, now it doesn't leak there, but you cant open them up again without breaking the seal.

Re: weather strip problems

lol yeah thats the problem....i did that one winter before i changed the seals on the car itself...and man, even after i took the tops off, there was still residue on the seals and the tops....but that was also an attempt to try to see if i could build up RTV to try to make the seal a bit higher, i figured then it wouldnt leak....too bad in my stupidity i didnt realize that RTV never fully dries and that it stays kinda tacky lol....whoops, but me and my dad are going to try to figure a way to see if we can move the t-top seal on the car at all...i doubt it, but we'll see.......

Re: weather strip problems

you can try using a needle witha calking and filling those i guess numbs?full, maybe they will expand a bit, enough to seal.

Re: weather strip problems

Most commonly, the t-top leak would be a door window that is out of adjustment, causing the glass to be too high vertically-which lifts up on the t-top window, causing a gap between t-top glass and the seal.
