Re: HOOD WONT POP!!!!!HELP!!!

2 persron solution. Have someone gently pull up on the hood as you pull the release. After you get it open replace the "pull" cable assembly..simple as that OR it might just be the hood pop spring needs replacing. The reason it doesn't pop is it may be too weak now.

Re: HOOD WONT POP!!!!!HELP!!!

You should be able to get it open by pulling up on it after you've pulled the hood-pop handle. Then remove the hood latch, degrease it so it's clean, and oil it up. Put it back then carefully stretch on the hood-pop spring attached to the hood. Should give it enough pressure to pop it every time for you.

Re: HOOD WONT POP!!!!!HELP!!!

Had the same problem. No amount of pulling (with a second person pulling the release) would get the hood to pop. Some pounding of fists on the hood did the trick, lol. In my case a generous application of white lithium grease on the latch assembly did the trick. No problems since then.

Mine used to do that, I applied graphite grease, though. It gets pretty cold here in the winter...

Re: HOOD WONT POP!!!!!HELP!!!

it almost seems counter productive but i used to pull the release then very gently push down on the hood(not all the way down, just a hair) and it would pop up... like everyone else said it prolly just needs some grease

Wow, so many different solutions! Truth is, you'll probably have to try them all to get the damn thing open--I know I did! Here's my :

With the hood release pulled as far as it'll go, pull up on the BACK of the hood (yes by the windshield). Let go of the hood release, then pull it again. Mine popped up right after that. Good luck!

That's an interesting approach. I had to replace the alternator in my ride before I was able to drive it home. I spent half an hour opening the hood. Ah, that was the beginning to what has been a long love/hate relationship with my car.

Re: HOOD WONT POP!!!!!HELP!!!

wow, defantly different solutions.
I remeber when my hood couldnt open, except when you pull the hood cable, nothing happened.
me and my father had to open it, he got underneath of the car and he took a screwdriver and pry opened the lock, and I was standing and I opened the hood, after that, we tightened and made sure the hood latch worked, before we closed it. probly not much info on that, but thats something you can do if your outa ideas (which of all the advises, Im sure one of them would work. )

Re: HOOD WONT POP!!!!!HELP!!!

I second Demon_Eater, when my hood wouldn't open, I crawled under the car and messed around with it with a screwdriver and pliers and I eventually got it.
Glad you got it off, took me an afternoon too, I had to disassemble all the underneath plastic guards...

Re: HOOD WONT POP!!!!!HELP!!!

My RS had this problem when I bought it. I usually had to knock on the hood in various places anjd pull the release ad try again, repeat as many times as necessary. Occasionally it got pretty frustrating.

In my case it's the metal latch bar that's mounted to the bottom of the hood, not the release assembly. Try finding that weird sorta L shaped bar on the bottom of the hood that goes into the latch mechanism. It's got a bolt on each end of it, try loosening one a little bit, then use a wrench to gently tap it in one direction or another, then tighten it. Close the hood and try again. If it's worse, move the latch the opposite direction, if it's better, keep moving it that way.

If all else fails, I would try to have someone pull on the release while you grab the hood at the headlight buckets and try to jiggle it from side to side.

A lot of people seem to think this is something wrong with the latch cable or the latch mechanism and try to grease that. But that's usually not the real problem. That latch bar on the bottom of the hood wears out and moves around over the years since it's only held in by those two bolts. When it gets out of allignment it gets stubborn.

Give it a shot before you go replacing cables, it's VERY easy to adjust.

Re: HOOD WONT POP!!!!!HELP!!!

i guess im gonna grease mine then cause it gets kid of annoying having to push the hood down after pulling the release. sometimes a little push wont do it so i just punch it as hard as i can. usually that pops it.
