weatherstripping

ok, so i have an 84 T/A and i just replaced the t-top weatherstripping. I did everything as correct as i could've, but i washed it the next day and it leaked. The water was coming from the front of both t-tops where it connects to the body on the outside edge of the car. And it only started dripping towards the end of washing the car. Before that it wasnt leaking at all. I dont have any clue of what i did wrong. So I just want to know how to go about troubleshooting it? Any help would be greatly appreciated, because i dont know what else to do.

Re: weatherstripping

I know this is might not be the best way, but something that has worked for me in the past and in all fairness this was on an old T-Top weather stripping not a new one.

But I have put pulled out the Weather Stripping and added a bead of silicon caulk underneath it. A small bead, not a large one, but then replaced it all, and let it dry.

Then after that, no leaks.

But like I said, this may not be right, but it was effective in my case.
I am curious to see what others might have to say though.
There might be a better way.

Re: weatherstripping

I recently replaced mine and haven't washed the car yet, so I can only hope it doesn't leak now. I used the weatherstrip adhesive to lock the weatherstrip to the body, in the lower channel. After that set up, I used windshield adhesive between the body and the weatherstrip. If that keeps the windshield from leaking, it should work on the ttops.

Also, the area that you mention the water leaking in requires a bead of windshield caulk to span the gap from the a pillar to the ttop channel. Here's a pic on the rear of the ttops that I found online.
