Interior 99% Complete. Time For EXTERIOR!!
Alright, Moving Right along lol, I am proud to say that after I Get My Switch bezel I am purchasing from Bull, and My head Liner refinished from my Neighbor I WILL BE DONE WITH MY INTERIOR!!!...Well, I still have to get the Uphoulstry for the seats, But it wont effect the Finished Product
.
My Car Is Currently Primer Grey with a red fender and red Hood.. I have some Questions For anyone Who Knows alot about Painting and Prepping cars.. Rust Is starting to Come thru the primer, lightly.. ANd my neighbor said its not the end of the world, Because I did get really Nevous about that. In a few weeks I want to Sand her down AGAIN to bare metal.
I want to Choose a Good Primer But This is where the confusion starts.. I have seen EPOXY primer, Then a SEALER Primer then a ETCHING primer. I dont Know if all these Terms Apply to One Particular primer Or if there is a Difference...But I would Like to Know what to get To Prepare the car For Paint.
1) Ill be sanding this down to bare metal again
2) My rear Bumper has some visable scratches In it ( small ) from really ruff sandpaper ( I made a Mistake the first time).. Use Filler Primer???
3)The Rust Comming Thru the Primer, I am Using a Rotary sander, a Big Industrial One that I can switch to a Buff and Buff my car with it too, If there is any rust damage that remains what do I do??
4) Once I put primer Down, How much should I Put Down? and do I wait like 30 mins after coats?.. I will be painting and sanding When it hits 65 70*F..
5) I am Painting the car Victory red, engine bay is already that color ( I painted it when engine was out, and came out great, aswell as the hatch jamb and the door Jambs, Do I have to Go over them again if I paint the car?
6) Finally, Does anyone Do paintwork Out of there garage here in long island?.. I would Prep the car and get someone to paint it for a Fair Price? Im way too nervus to paint the whole car. I got away with the engine bay and the jambs Ok.. But Im afraid of screwing up the whole car, and I dont ahve a garage anymore
Help!

Re: Interior 99% Complete. Time For EXTERIOR!!
I'd sand out the scratches in the rear bumper with a higher grit paper (I think I used 220 but I still got a few light scratches) but if they won't sand out just get some fiberglass filler (or any flexible filler) and fill them.
I'd say atleast 3 good coats and I usually wait around 15 mins between coats, I think it depends on the hardener you use and what temp its rated for. did your primer come with anything that says the flash time?
you don't have to redo anything you've already done, when you reprime and paint just tape off the areas that already have paint on them.
also hows the victory red look, I really like that color.
