Hawks SS hood question

Ok my car is at the body shop right now and after blocking out the hood 4 times we are almost ready for paint but ran into a problem. I was thinking about cutting out the hole, and cutting out the rear of the hood so it would be like a cowl but we decided against it being fiberglass and needing that extra support. Well we put the hood insert that came with the hood up to it and we can't figure out one way to get it looking right. It doesn't fit right. Is it supposed to sit flush? This is a show car and can't half *** this thing. Any suggestions/advice? Thanks for any help!

Re: Hawks SS hood question

Hi, if you have'nt cut out the front area, where the grille insert goes, then it wo'nt sit flush as the grille has a lip around it,on the back. Also the grille has a curve in it,from the middle it curves down to each end.If you have it upside down,it wont go in.Also,if you do cut out the front,be careful not to take too much material,
i did and i had to make up some mounting tabs, that are hidden between the two skins. You'll find if you do cut it,it does'nt weaken the hood any,and the rear is open at the bottom anyway.I thought about cutting the rear to let underhood heat out, till i noticed that i could see the left side headlight when i was driving.Hope this helps.

Alicat.
