t-top question

I am brand new to this forum. Yesterday, I bought a 1992 Firebird w/ 305, 5 speed and 3.73 gears in it. WHAT A BLAST TO DRIVE. The problem is the t-tops... their lexan and they are appear "shattered". They are structurally sound and dont leak but when you look out the top, its like your looking through a kaleidoscope. My question is... do all of the third gen firebirds use the same t-top? Can I buy a set of GLASS t-tops from, say, a 1989 firebird and will they fit as long as the "bolt" is the same?

Thanks for any help. I look forward to picking your brains when it comes time to make this car into something special..

Jerry

Re: t-top question

They're not all the same, there are several different types. The early cars use a hook latch mechanism, the later ones use pins. The lexan tops only came in the later years, like 90-92 if I'm not mistaken. I think glass tops with the pin type latch will fit, but I'm not positive. There are also a couple different aftermarket type tops, that are totally different and won't fit at all. The most common are C&C tops, they will have a "C&C" logo at the rear outside of each top.

Re: t-top question

The 'latch' style were in the early years, so as long as you stayed in the later years. There are two different pin sizes, a larger diamter, and a smaller diameter - as long as you either a) got glass tops with the same size pins, or b) get the pin housing on the car side as well, so that you can change out with the top.

I had the same thing in my 1992 Camaro - I switched to glass tops from a 1987 Bird, so they are the same between Camaro's and Bird as well.
