Re: window tint on 92 camaro

I had 5% all around on my firebird, and I loved it. Sure, it was difficult to see out of at night and backing up, but hey - thats the price you have to pay sometimes. However, what drove me to take it off was that I got 4 tickets for the tint. I am now running 22% on the back and 35% on the sides. (Legal limits in PA are 20% on the back and 70% on the sides.) Overall I would say I am happy, but I would go back to the dark tint any day as long as the police would leave me alone. Sadly, thats never going to happen in PA.

Your legal limit is 50%?? Where is that at?? Our legal limit in Texas is 20% on the driver and passenger door windows, but on the back windows (if you have a 4 door car) and the back windshield, it can be 5%, which is like limo tint. I have 5% on my back hatch and 20% on my doors. The 5% is a little dark when it is night, but it cuts out over 95% of heat, which is important to me. The 20% is pretty good ... not too dark, but not too light. Again, 50% seems pretty light to be the minimum legal limit. If we are talking about the same percentage standards, 50% has to be barely there at all. The highest percentage I have really seen for sale has been 30%.

Some draconian states ban tint completely. I thought we lived in a free country.

(P.S. If you can't tell I'm still kind of bitter about those tickets.)

Oh I am not thinking. I grew up in Michigan and I think at the time you couldn't have any tint at all of any type on your front windows. It must be a northern thing, because in the south they are much more liberal with the tint. But then again it is a bit hotter down here, so it is more necessary.

But...You can get a legal exemption in TX, with NO restrction. Meaning, you could do 5% everwhere, including lower than the windshield AS1 line.

Really, I did not know that. I know in El Paso they don't really enforce the tint laws ... at least from what I have seen ... unless you are doing something else wrong and are trying to slam you. But it gets so hot down here that tint is a must. You hardly see any cars without tint of one shade or another.
