paint help

Hello to all. I have a 1988 iroc. That has this big white spot on the roof of the car. Before i got the car it was parked in a garage for years and when it would rain the roof would leak and was told that is how the spot got there. any one know if and how i would go about getting it out of the paint? t/y

Re: paint help

Try a clay bar, maybe that would help!

Re: paint help

thats clear coat oxidation, only successful way I know of getting rid of that is sanding it away and re-clearing. however at that point you miswell repaint the whole car so it'll match.

Re: paint help

Id say try to buff it first but it looks to far gone. You can make it look good without having to paint the whole car if the paint on your sail panels is good, not oxidised. Sand and prime the roof, 220 grit and use a good high build primer. Paint the roof blending out the color to the A pillars and the sail panels. Clear the roof, clear the A pillars down to where they meet the fenders and clear the sail panels about half to 3/4 down. Once the clear has hardened buff off the sail panel area. Blending like this will leave no hard line, just a dull area where the clear gets real thin. Its tough to discribe but I hop that helps.

Re: paint help

is this a common problem? it just seems odd that rian water would do this. especially out of the sun in a garage. anyways good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Re: paint help

Hey thanks for the help guys. Maybe i will try the clay bar and if that don't work. Guess i'll have to redo the whole roof. irockid That is what i was told by the person i got it from. Was his dads car and he passed away. So he wanted to sell it and that is how i got it. Sounds kind of funny to me also that rain would do that. You can rub your hand across the paint and when you get to the white in the paint it is real coarse. The car only had 5000 miles on it when i got it.
