I think my hatch plate is twisted!

Ever since Ive had my Camaro, Ive always noticed that the rear hatch was out of alignment. Well, I finally got around to pulling off the metal plate and started to adjust it. I checked the glass alignment, it's about as good as it's gonna get. I went to put the metal to piece back on, and it seems to be warped! The driver side rear corner sits about 1/4" lower than the passenger side rear corner. I had a friend out in the shop today and I was about to see if maybe we could twist it back into shape, but the more I thought about it I can't really tell where it's twisted at, i.e the center or one of the sides.

With the plate resting on the glass, you can push on the rear passenger side corner and it will lift up on the front driver side corner. Has anyone had any kind of issue like this? I can tell that this is why my alignment was off. I was thinking about getting some nylon washers or something and spacing it out even, but if the metal's somehow warped, Id like to try and fix it first before I throw a band-aid on it.

hmm, my friends 90 camaro is like that. only way we notices was he did a aero spoiler swap & the spoiler hits the passengers side of the car before its completely closed.. he just moved the lock up as far as it would go.. idk what causes them to do this though?

They easily get twisted. Over years of pullin up from one side eventually takes its toll and bends it, it happens slow so you wont notice. You have to open from the middle.

so you've been able to bend one back into shape without distorting it?

I have not done it, my hatch does not have that problem, but my bros car does, he wont let me fix it.

I did a search awhile ago, someone literally bent it back by pushing on it somehow.

I usually hate tellin peopel to do searches ebcasue I hate that as an answer, but if you do a search you should be able to find that thread. The finishing product looked good if I remember correctly.
