what pressure?

not quite sure where to ask this question (because theres no tire section on tgo) but here we go:

i have a set of 255/50R16 YOKO tires on my t/a....now the door jamb on the car says 30psi (from what i remember, because i remember it was quite low) and the tires say 50psi (again, from what i remember).

i set the tires at 35 for a while because i thought that was closer to normal, but theres still a bit of bulge in the tires like theyre not properly inflated, but i dont want to inflate them too much and move the bulge and wear out the dead center of the tire.

so i guess ultimately my question is.....what does everyone else run their tire pressure at? and what do you think these tires should be run at?

Re: what pressure?

I run 45 psi on my rear 255/50/16's. (Street) and 30 psi (Track)
Check the treadwear often and adjust as necessary.
BTW, this question should really go in the chassis/suspension forum.

Re: what pressure?

I run what the tires say to run.
The sticker is for the stock tires which you no longer have.
You can play with it alittle, but you should go off of what the tires say.

Re: what pressure?

I run 28 in the front and 22 in the rear, checked cold.
This certainly isn't a dumb question but it's going to be really hard for us to give you a good answer. The answer is "It depends"! Do you usually drive in the car alone ... or with friends? V6 or V8? Is the back full of stuff? heavy stuff? what size rim do you have for that tire size? All things you need to consider. Radial tires tend to look a little flat on the bottom. Don't try to put enough pressure in it to correct that, you could kill yourself.

Any tire store or alignment shop should be able to give you a good answer. Unfortunately if you goto 6 tire stores your going to get 6 different answers. Take the average, and then check your tire wear and adjust as needed.

The tire will give you a maximum pressure. They don't know what kind of car they are mounted on. The sticker will atleast show you the differential between front and rear.

Re: what pressure?

ok thank you, and i normally drive alone with the subs in the back of the car...the only reason why i ask this question is because i have noticed a bit of sag in the front tires and the sides wearing kidna quickly from what i remember them wearing at from last year....i thought that maybe that the tire pressure may be low and making it wear quicker

i understand everyone will think different...i was just thinking that maybe there was like a science to it lol

and i also know this should be posted in the chassis forum but i thought that its not too too necissary to post there because almost anyone can answer this question and its not specific to the chassis and also theres more people in the body forum than in the chassis forum
