Painting Headlight Pockets.....
OK, so I really want to paint my headlight pockests satin black ( thats what color I was told that they really are) I havent really done any serious auto painting before. But Id really like to do it myself. could any of you, give me some tips as far as the process goes? like do i have to wet sand or just sand the old whit paint thats on their now, then prime it then lay down the black, and then the clear coat? As well as the right paint and clear.

Clean it off, sand it with some finer grit, I would say something like 400 grit.
You shouldn't have to prime it unless you take off all the paint.
Clean it off again, tape it off, and spray it.
For little things like that most people just use a good aresol can.
You can wet sand it if you really want to.
Then clean and spary with a clear.
Wouldn't hurt to do several coats.

There's a spray bomb available called bumper paint. I used a can of it to black out my headlight pockets. I use silicone/grease/wax remover as a cleaner after it's been sanded and taped. ( Not as aggresive as laquer thinner and dosen't leave a film behind likem paint thinner )

just to point out the obvious, if you want the satin aka "flat-ish" look, think twice about a clear coat. I had my whole car painted and specifically asked for flat/satin black on the pockets and hood blisters and the painters did just that. Then cleared the WHOLE CAR and turned the satin into a high gloss luckily the guy remembered me asking about that, and resprayed them for free...with a rattle can! and they came out perfect. I just had to respray them this past summer and the paint's been there for 5 years. Mostly resprayed because of sap damage.
anyways not sure if they make a satin clear coat but i just thought i'd add that little story before you made the same mistake they did.

I would just use a semi-gloss black rattle can. Just wet sand with some 400 grit, primer it then sand it again and spray. I would recomend rustolem spray or krylon. The

Also "flat" black seems to trap more dust. I used smi-gloss plenty of times and still has the flat look. If you wanted to go with professional paint the painters often use flattend clear over the paint.
