Trunk Key No Longer Works??? Lock Broken???
Okay. I have subs in the back right now, so I cant take anything apart from the inside. I have to go at it from the outside.
What happened was... I put the key in... Turned, trunk opened...
5 minutes later... I put the key in... Wont turn? What the hell?
The same key still opens my doors, so it isn't the key. Did a prong or something break in the lock cylinder?

I use Lock-Ease from time to time to lube the cylinders up.

Key goes in easily though... Is that all I need? I mean it worked about 3 minutes previously.

I tried lock-ease and nothing. Is there anyway I can break the lock with a flat-head screw driver so and key opens it? I really need to get my subs out, but I dont want to completely break the lock.

You can't get to your subs from the back seat?
You could drill the lock out but that will ruin it. Trying to break it may damage the body where it attaches.
The best way would be to try and clear out stuff from the inside and get to it that way.

Cant get them out. My subs go deep into the hatch well and I need to lift them straight out with the hatch open.

Isn't your car provisioned with an electric hatch release?

I have the same kind of sub box and it is impossible to pull the subs out with the limited rear space with out the hatch open. I dont even think those locks can be picked but you may contact a locksmith

The trunk was draining my battery. I am just going to call AAA and see what they can do for me.

Re: Trunk Key No Longer Works??? Lock Broken???
So your subs sit deep down in the well, but how high do the stick up? Because from inside the car, all you need is enough room to get your arm behind the rear interior panel(from the passenger side) and pull the cable. Sounds easy, doesn't it, lol? It is, actually. It's maneuvering yourself into position that's the hard part.
But from the outside, unless you're an expert at picking locks, or you have "friends" who are, then you're really running a risk of ruining the lock and breaking the center section of the taillights. So I'd agree that you should let the paid professionals handle it... except that I think they'll also be breaking the lock to get it open. But hopefully they won't.
Picking locks always looked so easy on detective/spy shows, lol. No lock ever stopped Jim Rockford! Too bad it's not that simple in real life... or maybe that's a good thing.
Edit: Drilling it from the outside might be the only way, in your case, and that's probably what you'll hear from most, maybe all, locksmiths. But that could cause other damage, so I'd suggest you keep looking for a locksmith that might be able to get it open differently or more safely. But if you settle on a locksmith that is gonna drill it, be sure he convinces you he can do it without messing up anything else.

Re: Trunk Key No Longer Works??? Lock Broken???
It might not be the lock cylinder. The trunk key lock pulls on a cable. I'm betting the cable either got hung up on the end or something is wedged is the thing that the cable pulls on. Either way, check out that area of the hatch motor before you go taking off taillights and the lock cylinder.

then get your subs out and then get the lock fixed. If you want it to have the same key as your existing one, most locksmith shops can do that.
