The firebird is not correct. Your GTA should have black with a gold WS6. They were discontinued for a while but GM reproduction ones are available again.

Re: question about GTA wheel center caps?
For 87, they were just the 'birds. The 'WS6 Performance Suspension' didn't start until 88.
The 87 GTA wasn't actually a separate, full model, but more of a well optioned Trans Am, although still an REAL GTA. Not until 88 was the GTA a separate model (like RS,/Z28/Formula, etc) Then the center caps were changed also.
I was going to get rid of my 'bird center caps, to be replaced by WS6 labeled ones, until I learned.

"Question #15 - "My 1987 GTA doesn't have some of the stuff listed as standard on the later models. What's up with that?"
The 1987 GTA was not the fully-loaded car of just a single year later. Initially, the GTA package consisted of only eight (8) performance-related options plus the specific exterior appearance package; two separate option value packages were then available at extra cost to further customize the car to the owner's individual tastes. For 1988, the model went with its fully-contented roster of options to help ease ordering concerns for buyers.
So it is possible to have a first-year GTA without some of the options you have come to think of as "GTA equipment"........."

"Sometimes you may also see differing center caps on certain cars; the photo shows the "WS6" caps that are always seen in advertisements and pictures. I personally have seen GTAs that feature the center caps with the gold Firebird emblem as well; in fact, most all 1987 GTAs had the "Firebird" center caps. It seems the cap pictured above came into wide use in 1988 and continued through 1992. Re: question about GTA wheel center caps?
well mine is an 88 GTA and it has the gold firebird center caps with gold rims. i find it strange that someone has replaced the "WS6" caps with the firebird ones. this GTA i just bought is unmolested and very well maintained... is there a way to tell if the car came with the rims that are on it? they could've been black which i think compliments the car better then the gold. where can i get the WS6 emblems for my caps?

Re: question about GTA wheel center caps?
Ok, so the 87 had one year only rims and center caps. Good to know. I do know that the bird emblem center caps are a LOT easier to find on eBay. So logically is it easy to see how they'd get swapped if someone wants to maintain a pristine condition look and isn't picky on logo of the center cap.

Re: question about GTA wheel center caps?
Actually the Bird with the Gold wheels was a "2" year only thing as they also used the Wheels in 1986 on some Trans Am's. I believe the center caps were the same.
The Gold bird may be also correct on the 1988 as there may have been a shortage of the WS6 caps or they may have had some left over from 1987.
Also check your wheels, the 1986 & 1987 cross lace "GTA" wheels did not have the extra dot by the edge of the rim where the 1988+ did... Again some 1988's may have gotten the older style wheel before a changeover...
In a twist of fate some 1991 & 1992 Trans Am's got WS6 Center caps but did not get the WS6 Package... go fig.
