The clear needs something to "bite" onto.

If it's done right....you can make enamel shine just as good as clear. I painted my car with enamel...and it outshines alot of clear jobs I've seen. If I had to go back.....I would use 2 stage...but I was only 19 when I painted my car and didn't know much. Plus..it was pretty cheap.
I'm not saying my car has the best enamel paint job....but alot of guys find it hard to believe it's a single stage paint...

Re: body
if you have crack in the paint you have to take it all back off or the cracks will just come right back, proper application and buffing will make it shine.
in 2k paint we add flex aditive sometimes, the newer best paint dont need it so maybe yours does ask at your supplier if they have a flex additive for the plastic parts.

Re: body
you can clear over enamel
I just had my hood peel up like a banana
I got mad at it and took a 10lb slege to it
none of the paint popped off
what to know why
enamel sticks to stuff better than base
if you painted your bumpers with base and no flex agent your paint would pop off
sand the cracks out in the bumper and most of the enamel
then recoat with enamel and flex agent
the only way I would know is I have to do the same thing
