Need windshield wipers that work

My wind shield wipers have always just barely worked, but my wind shield motor, gear box and controls work fine. I use Rain-X and have to have like new wind shield wiper blades just to be able to see.
At night when raining if I am around bright street lights or I have on coming head lights it is very difficult to see any thing.
After having it rain on and off 3 weeks of the last 4 weeks enough is enough.
Today I tried to pull the wind shield wiper arm off the gear box after noting that the arm applied no pressure to hold the wind shield wiper blade against the wind shield.
The entire arm popped off with the slightest tug. Now I am not even sure how the arms stay on there when I am driving down the high way with the wipers going.
What should I do or buy to get wind shield wiper arms that hold the blade tightly against the wind shield?

Isn't there a spring under the arm to pull it to the windshield??? Did you take one off when you removed the wiper?? Hmmm, thats all i can think of that would hold the wiper tight to the windshield

The spring is there and it seems like it has plenty of tention, its just that every thing is so loosely matched. That is why the wiper arm is about ready to fall off.
I could get new wiper arms but they might have the same problem as the loose fitting ones on there now.
I was thinking of getting new wiper arms but I want ones that work.

if everything seems tight and its not holding the wiperblade tight to the windsheild, just do what i did on my bonneville and bend the wiper arm a little towards the windshield so it puts more pressure on it. if you dont think that will work, could you post up a pic or two so i can see it better and try and understand exactly whats happening, its easier to help with pics.

I will try bending them some so I can get some use out of them but I don't think it will fix the loose fit problem. I just don't want to lose a wiper when I am going down the interstate or some thing.

Oh so the wipers are loose on the motor that makes them move? then somethin is wore out there, which would cause them to not sit tight against the windshield. if it is not tight where the end of the wiper arm connects to the motor that makes them move then something is wrong there, and if they pop off as easily as you say they did then thats not right. somethin is wore out. it could have been caused by turning the wipers on when they were froze to the windshield in the winter, or somethin like that. check to make sure where the end of the wiper arm connects is not wore out.

Re: Need windshield wipers that work

I think you guys have it pretty well covered but I gotta put in my . If the part the wiper attaches to, called the wiper transmission, is in good shape and the splines aren't worn off then probably all you need are new wiper arms. Like it was stated above bending the arms will add a little pressure to the glass, but if they are loose on the splines then the arms should be replaced. Also like what was stated above if we aren't understanding the problem pics can really help.

I agree. Check the splines--especially since the arm just 'popped' off.

Ya ok i get what he's sayin now, in that case bending the arms wont do much because the bend will just push them off the wiper transmission farther, check the wiper transmission, and if thats fine then you need new wiper arms.
