84 Trans AM 90 Firebird Compatibility

Im thinking about switching the nose from my 90 firebird parts car onto my 84 trans am....i put a brand new reinforcement bar and fog lights on the firebird and wanna use it on the 84, but im not too sure if it will be very hard to changeover and i dont wanna do it if it will be a big ordeal. I know the ground effects around the bottom of the 84 bumper is one piece and the 90 has 2 seperate ground effects but from the outside it doesnt look like it would be too hard.....anybody know if it would be an easy swap?? Also thinking about taking the doors off the 90 since they are mint in and out and have cupholders will they fit the 84?? Thanks for your help

there will be some problems due to the differences in the ground effects. The 84 ground effects, as you said, is one piece that bolts on to the front bumper cover and fenders. The 1990 bumper cover that has ground effects (assuming this is the style bumper you're talking about) has the ground effects molded into the bumper cover and then has extensions that bolt to each fender. You can swap the entire 1990 setup over to an 84 but your front ground effects will now be taller (and higher) than your 1984 style side and rear ground effects and be an obvious mismatch. The headlight trim piece will also have to be swapped due to a slightly different contour of the headlight pocket (84 has a more square outside corner and the 90 is rounded).

your cupholder on the doors is just part of the door panel assembly. There is no reason to go through all the work of swapping entire doors for the cup holder... just swap the cup holder to your existing doors. At most, you'll have to drill a few holes.

There is a very similar thread that has some pictures for reference:

Re: 84 Trans AM 90 Firebird Compatibility

well i have all the parts from the 90 im probably gonna switch the rear bumper as well since the 84 has a bunch of ripples in it and the one on my firebird is perfect....the doors on the 84 have got some rust issues as well and all the weatherstripping and door panels are pretty much shot so im jus gonna throw the newer doors on and probably put all the groun d effects off of the 90 on it so they match up nicely.....The fenders on the 84 have seen some better days as well so i might throw the fenders from the 90 on it and jus do away with the fendervents or maybe just find another set...I already swapped all the seats into the trans am out of the bird still gotta switch the console and the dash since some idiot put a monster tach on the dash of the 84 and cracked it...plus the interior on the 90 is near perfect so im jus switching pretty much evenrything i can....one of these days ill post some pics when i get a chance ive tried a couple times but never have much luck with it
