new hood scoop

i recently finished mounting a hood scoop on my 83 Bird. its functional ram air...i'm just thinking about making an air cleaner isolator so it only gets cold air. it actually wasn't as hard to mount as i thought it was going to be. i got the decals from Year One.

here's where i got the scoop from:

Re: new hood scoop

I would like to see some pics of inside the hood and the function of it.

It does look like a Ford in style to me and would not be my style but it's your car.

You've got an interesting car overall, what up with those fog lamps ? The hood mod looks nice though.

You took the time to post an insult to his car, yet he's not supposed to take offense?

Why did you even bother posting? You don't like it...Move on!

I like the style.....Just woulda gone bigger for my own car. Some people like small & subtle, some don't. May also have something to do with whats available & the price.

Your post was a blatant insult, not a just criticism.

Re: new hood scoop

thanks to all who left positive comments!

to all the haters, move on.

86NiteRider- i'll get some underhood pics up when i do a little cleaning up under there...i want to build a cowl that isolates the air cleaner from the engine bay...that way it'll suck in cold air only. and you're right, its a repro Ford cobra scoop...it was the only one i could find that would look right with the lines of the car. as for function, i basically cut a hole in the hood so the air cleaner partially sticks out.

omnipotentgoku- thanks! the fog lights are made by Pilot- i got them @ the parts store i work at (hello, discount!). they have glass lenses with a multi-color halo (which i disconnected- it looked ghetto). i upgraded to 100w Hella bulbs and made my own harness. they're bright as heck. i had to remove some of the bumper material, but it was worth it.

Brennan- it is painted, i just painted it matte black. it came with a blue gelcoat. i saw a few other cars with black hood scoops, and i liked the look. plus, i might get the car painted black one of these days...

Stephen- the place i got the scoop from had a bigger one, but when i measured on the car, it looked like it was almost too big. i wish it was a little bigger myself, but i'm satisfied with how it turned out.

Re: new hood scoop

i thought it looked ford like too and its from a cobra. but it has nice lines and as long as it is functional and moves the air in and lets you breath better, then its a good positive addition.
the only person who has to like it is you. no one else.
strange enough i like the oem scoops that are part of the f/b. the two front hood scoops that take air in and the side ones let it flow out and they dont stick up at all. i like them so much i just got delivered a set to put on the hood of my camaro but i will make them functional.
good luck with your new addition. it looks like you did a very nice job installing it.

Re: new hood scoop

I think the black hood scoop goes very well with the wheels and tire setup.

What color is that considered on your car? Is that GM's off-white?
