I need to open the rear hatch on my parts car without the keys. Any tricks to do this? I don't care if I break anything the car is junk. Thanks

 

If the interior trim is missing just craw back and unbolt the latch. If its there and you don't care about it cut the trim out and do the same.

You can open it by breaking the key cylindar but its easy to mess up around the key or stab the screw driver in your hand.

The key cylindar is attached to the hatch latch via a cable if you can pry out the cylindar you can get to the cable.

a BFH to the rear glass can be fun but not productive.

you could slide a hack saw blade into the thing and cut the latch bar.

if it has a releas button hot wire it and pop it open.

 

I have used a screwdriver and just punched the lock out before. Once its punched out, you should be able to stick a screwdriver in and turn it. It takes a little work but can be done. The other option is to crawl back there and pull the plastic loose. There is a clip right up against the lock that just slides out. That should do it.

-this only works on non power hatch release cars-
put the rear seat down, take a flat head screwdriver & a small flashlight, crawl back there as far as you can from the back seat, take the screwdriver & pry the trunk light out, shine the flashlight into the opening where the lense was & you should see a vertical gap in a round metal thing, stick the screwdriver in that & turn, you should hear a -click-, now comes the hard part... using your back, lift the hatch up & shove the screwdriver between the back of the car & the hatch to keep it from re-latching, get out, rest your back a second & lift the hatch up from the outside, then take the screwdriver & use it to trip the latch into the closed position...

-unless you plan to do this all again, do not leave any tools etc, in the car, the trunk will look closed but it will be open, anybody can open it & get into the car.
