Mirror Glass Replacement

Does anyone have any tips for repacing the mirror glass for the exterior driver's side mirror (1984 Z28, manual mirrors). My GM dealer wouldn't attempt to remove the old (broken) glass from the plastic surround (holder) for fear of breaking the surround, and then having to replace the entire assembly. So, they glued the new glass over the old glass, which of course now is sliding off gradually when the days are especially hot.

Probably best to remove the entire assembly. Its held in place by three screws.Move the mirror around & you will see them. Also the plastic surround has access holes. If you brake the glass away carefully you can access the screws this way.You can also just cut away the glue holding the mirror on with an x-acto knife. Then glue the replacement on.Another option is go the junkyard(or ebay) & get a good mirror assembly from a donor.

Thanks so much for the advice! - I'll have a stab at it over the weekend.
