Need help getting rear bumper absorber off!

I can't get the top nuts off holding the rear absorber. The bolts were lightly pressed into the absorber and now they're spinning with the nut. I can't reach the bolts with vise grips, its too narrow for a cut-off wheel. Any ideas as to how to get these off?

Not sure how deep or narrow that space is. But you could stick weld a simple single tack-weld in there, to hold the bolt from moving.

I suppose you could give JBWeld a shot, if you can reach it down in there.

I thought about that but I only have a MIG and the torch has too much of a curve to get it up there.

Yeah. I have a MIG too & knew there was no way the gun would fit in there, along with a hand to pull the trigger, so I didn't bother suggesting it.

Maybe....You could use a hole saw to cut an opening to fit the gun nozzle through there, and tack it? You could always MIG the hole shut again, after you were done.

I really don't have a suggestion on how to get yours apart. I just removed mine two weeks ago and all eight bolts spun in the housing. Mine was rusted and needed replaced anyway. I had to cut the bumper into pieces just to grind the bolt heads off. They really are buried. I know I wasn't any help, just wanted to say I feel your pain.

Looks like you could get a sawzall up in there to cut the head off. At least the one in the pic is loosened enough to have a small space where you need to cut. Don't know about the rest.

I had the same problem when I was trying to remove mine when I got my car painted, but I just ended leaving it on it was to much of a hassle although it is awfully rusty

Re: Need help getting rear bumper absorber off!

Why not attack it from the bottom side? Extend the shock and cut the shaft with a cutoff wheel. Then you should be able to pull it out from the top.

Hope this helps.
