Is this spray gun good?

A friend of mine had this sprayer sitting around and thought I could use it. Anyone know if its gonna give a nice paint job or is it garbage?

Here is what I found on it.
SHARPE 975 HVLP SIPHON FEED SPRAY GUN Part # 5585 1.8mm * Works and feels like conventional equipment * Corrosion resistant Niflor fluid tip * Stainless steel fluid passage * Deluxe fan and fluid adjustments * System includes 450t Teflon cup * Meets all environmental regulations governing high volume low pressure (HVLP) spray equipment

Re: Is this spray gun good?

The gun will work fine.Fluid tip is a little big But will still work. What material are you going to spray? Primer, enamel, base coat, clear coat. I like a big fluid tip for primers and i use a 1.5 tip for base and clears. If the gun doesnt spray proper you can buy rebuild kits for them. And remember 9 out of 10 times the gun is fine, Its the person holding the gun that needs help. Haha. good luck

Re: Is this spray gun good?

Actually the gun is brand new in the box. I hope to be using it for primer. Will this be ok?

Re: Is this spray gun good?

absolutely. If your going to use high build primers such as a 2 part urethane and it seems to spray thick and dry, just reduce a little with lacquer. If using conventional primer, you will be fine

Re: Is this spray gun good?

You'll probably be fine. As long as you keep your air pressure and fluid tip adjusted correctt depending on what material your spraying. Me personally I wouldnt use it jus fer the fact it's siphon fed. I like gravity fed saves more paint. But as long as it's HVLP (high volume low pressure) your good. If not your paint will atomize like **** and you'll probably have alot of orange peel. When we sprayed primers in shop at school we weren't to picky about the gun we used. When it comes to paint and special clear is when u worry about it.

Re: Is this spray gun good?

So this gun would be ok to shoot some prime but not ok for color coat and clear? If not it's ok cause I just want it to cover the car in primer anyway. What would you suggest to keep the pressure at?

Re: Is this spray gun good?

The gun is more than sufficient to shoot primer. It is also sufficient to shoot base and clear. You can use a 20 dollar gun to apply primer. Your fine. Air pressure recomendations are on the label of what ever primer your using. Over the past 30 years ive used suction feed, gravity feed, conventional and hvlp. They all work. I still use a conventional suction feed spray gun to lay down high dollar custom paint jobs. I also have state of the art gravity feed hvlp guns. In the proper hands that gun can be used to do a top quality paint job from primer to clear and everything in between!!! Start spraying.
