repairing stripped out bolts

ive got a fiberglass cowl hood that has several bolt holes that are stripped out, ive gone to a larger size bolt, but dont really trust tightening them up completely. what is the best way to repair these? inserts? resin and re-tapping them? what? also not interested in using hood pins, but will if i have to. thanks

Re: repairing stripped out bolts

the threads should be steel plates that are molded into the fiberglass. So long as the insert is not loose, you should have no problem with the larger bolts.

You should use hood pins. The fiberglass hoods are 2 pieces bonded together, it is possible for them to separate, delaminate, and the top half can flly off damaging your car and possible causing an accident. A guy on here recently had a hood come apart on his camaro.
