I would use self threading nuts.

Re: door ground effect hardware

They're called speed nuts and they're all over our cars. Mostly on the ground effects but they also hold the door handles on as well as a few other things. Get to a parts yard with a 7/16th deep socket and go nuts.

Re: door ground effect hardware

Sorry to hi-jack the thread here, but I'm looking for the opposite part. So I'm looking for the pin that would mount in the ground effect. Some of mine are rusted and the pin is now gone. Can those be replaced and if so where do you get those?

Re: door ground effect hardware

Look at post 59 and 68 of my build thread here:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/memb...n-91z-ls1.html

I detail removal of the ground effects mounting brackets, as well as cleaning them up and painting to prevent rust in the future.

This applies to 91-92 only I believe. The previous years I'm simply not sure of.

Re: door ground effect hardware

It looks like the 91-92 door ground effect has a bracket. Mine is an 87 IROC and does not have this bracket. They are actually studs that are in about 5 different places on the lower door ground effect that the above pictured nuts thread onto.

Re: door ground effect hardware

There are body shop supply stores that supply body shops, and they have everything. I just ordered the ground effects mounting bolts (mine are acorn bolts, not speed bolts), as well as clips that connect the left front sound deflector (clips to the knee bolster, the pad under the instrument cluster). They also have body plugs (that go inside the hatch), torx screws (that hold in the knee bolster), and all the other things that you can't find at O'Reilly or Advance Auto. But you have to order a box, no small quantities, and they cost about $15 each. So I'll be having some left over. If you want acorn bolts or clips free, send me a private message with your address, and I'll send you some when they come in (around 1st of October). This finishes my rebuild!

PS: The fastener at the back of the left sound deflector (way back behind the gas pedal on the accelerator cable fixture, passenger side) is a wing nut, not a bolt.
