Re: How to find Polyurethane welding rods on ebay?
Hey,
No unfortunately its welding a large piece in the top centre of the bumper.
I tried fibreglassing to repair but I'm now afraid that it will crack because of the different thermal properties between the resin and the PUR bumper material.
At the very least the paint will probably crack when it heats and cools. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=720553&goto=newpost
I still have the original piece I cut out of the bumper, so I was thinking I can probably just weld that back in at the angle I wanted and sand it back to get the shape I want, but now I need the PUR / R01 rods to do it.
Schit works awesome. I've always used a flat piece of the bumper cover, ground effect, whatever, behind the repair and bridging both sides along with this. I can't remember how many time I've used this product and never been disappointed or had a failure. Just make sure you REALLY rough up the surfaces between the adhesive prior to clamping everything together.
Repaired the front bumper cover on the car in my sig pic in 1997 and it's still holding and looking great!! The link is through Amazon and takes you to Walmart but you can get it anywhere.

Thanks for that, it seems to be as difficult to find as the PUR rods, but at least it's showing up on ebay. Now I just need to find a flat piece of PUR bumper I can use to put in place of the fibreglassed piece.

On Ebay search for plastic welding rods. I've just checked and they show any kind you could want; however, The 3M product shown above for flexible repairs is ideal if used as directed...much better than plastic welding. Just to be sure, this is what I'm talking about:

I've used it many times professionally and on my own cars.

Yes, and as I said, ebay comes up with all types, except the PUR/PU polyurethane rods which I need, and the other catch is they have to be able to ship to Australia for a reasonable price.
Also this isn't for a repair, its to remove the nose tip on the 85 bumper to allow the K.I.T.T scanner light to fit with the stock bumper, so I have to put a 24" x 3" piece of polyurethane in the gap and then blend/melt/glue/weld it into the stock bumper.
If you check out the link I posted originally, it will show what I'm doing (trying to do anyway) to get a better picture of what I'm chasing.
