just picked up this 91 z28, looked like it sat in a field or was under water for a while!!

the whole front suspension and under carriage had been sprayed with undercoat to hide the rust. and both front fender mount/pinchwelds had been crushed and rusted out.

i removed the entire front end and subframe, and sandblasted it all and then epoxy primed it then painted all parts with chassis black. i also completly cleaned and sanded the front engine/frame assembly and sealed and repainted it also.

the worst part was the pinchwelds! i had to cut away the whole corner, and remove all the rust and then re-weld it back into place.

here is some pics of what it looked like when i got it, and some repair and then painted shots. can't wait to get it back togther, and drive it again!

hmm... The more I see these all black engine bays the more I like them!

 

it's called chassis black. it's a premixed enamel, all you have to do is add hardner. it is very durable, have used it on a couple of cage and undercarrige jobs.

 

i painted the firewall factory color after i pulled the a/c, but it just didn't look that great! i think it looks cleaner, when the engine bay is gloss or semi black.

 

I had a 74 Malibu that I painted the engine bay gloss black. It really looked nice.

 

WOW, Im surprised, your car will last forever. My rider is rally, so dirt and scratches are my style, but rust is crushed .

 

Nice work, at least it looks super clean on the outside.

 

nice! i'm working on my 91 Trans Am convertible now as well. But I don't plan on going as deep as you are lol.
